Open Windows
In December 2022, I sent postcards to friends I met over the summer, inviting them to open their windows at the same time on February 3, 2023, based on their respective time zones. This act of coordinated action was an attempt to open our spaces to each other, creating a new form of “global architecture.” In doing so, it raised questions about how we define personal and collective space in an increasingly globalized world. On the day of the event, I was left in the dark, trusting that others would follow through, creating an act of connection that was both personal and out of my control.

Book Documentation of Open Windows
In this book documentation of “Open Windows,” the window is reimagined as a communal interface. The structure acts as a portable archive, containing the postcards that initiated the performance in 2023, while also holding materials for future iterations. Through a system of interior tabs and pull mechanisms, the book simulates the act of opening, allowing a single viewer to re-enact the collective trust required for the original event.
